‘Law-Reporter’ on Cricketforindia.Com

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, December 26, 2005 -- (Business Wire India) -- He was the man who owned cricket’s most famous boundary signal before New Zealander Billy Bowden arrived on the scene. Piloo Reporter, whose vigorous arm-swaying to indicate a boundary prompted cricket legend Sir Richard Hadlee to christen his signal as a ‘milkshake’, was one of the first two ‘neutral’ umpires deputed to stand in a Test series. He, along with V.K. Ramaswamy officiated in two Tests between Pakistan and the West Indies in 1986-87, more than a decade before the ICC made ‘neutral’ umpires mandatory in Test cricket. Reporter went on to become the lone Indian umpire to stand in the 1992 World Cup, which was held in Australia and New Zealand.

He has added another feather to his impressive umpire’s cap.

Reporter is an expert panelist with www.cricketforindia.com, India’s first cricket coaching website, which was launched in Mumbai on 25th June 2004 on the 21st anniversary of India’s remarkable World Cup win in 1983.

One of the site’s many goals is to simplify the complex laws that govern every Indian’s favourite sport. Piloo Reporter is at the helm of this mission. He contributes a monthly column to the site, wherein each and every law of the game is covered, dissected and discussed, with illustrations from actual cricket matches. This is a boon to cricket-lovers, many of whom want to acquaint themselves with the laws, but refrain from doing so because of the prosaic technical language.

Cricketforindia.com offers cricket-lovers the opportunity to keep track of all the happenings in their favourite sport. The site blends information and ‘cricketing’ entertainment. Live scores, match reports and coaching-based features apart, the site is also host to a variety of cricket-related games. The ‘Spot the Difference’ and ‘Predict the Indian XII’ contests have attracted a tremendous amount of entries. The same is the case with the third online cricket quiz, a collaborative venture between the website and PARLE PRODUCTS, which has recently been uploaded, and is expected to elicit as many responses as its two predecessors. It is noteworthy that the entries haven’t been restricted to the sub-continent. Fans from regions like the US, UK, Ireland and Canada have registered themselves on the site.

Cricketforindia.com averages a staggering fifty lakh hits every week. The site’s future plans include an ‘online coaching’ feature, which will enable cricket-enthusiasts to interact directly with cricketing experts. The site is also working with its American representatives to organize a series of Cricket Clinics in the US next year.
