Anand, Gujarat, India, Wednesday, February 28, 2007 -- (Business Wire India) -- Mr. Nicolas Forissier, Hon’ble Minister of State for Food Processing, Govt. of France visited Anand today. The purpose of the visit was to have an overview of the co-operative dairy development in India. The delegation comprised CEOs of leading French companies including Dabon, Elecrem, Novasep and Inra besides the officials from the French embassy.
The delegation visited Amul Dairy, the cradle of the White Revolution and Dairy Co-operative Movement. Mr. Forissier was highly impressed with the progress made by Amul. He praised the efforts of the farmers of Gujarat for creating for such a vibrant organization.
After visiting Amul, the delegation came to the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation, the apex body of 2.5 million milk producers of Gujarat and India’s largest food products marketing organization, and held wide ranging discussions with Shri B. M. Vyas, Managing Director and other officials of GCMMF.
They discussed the changes taking place in the dairy sector. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the fact that while of the other developmental models working for farmers stressed on production and procurement Amul model is a unique example of development wherein the stress is on marketing along with procurement and processing.
On his way back, he visited a village dairy co-operative society.
