Gujarat NRE Coke on Friday entered into an agreement with Sailcon, a division of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), which will provide consultancy services for the implementation of the power plants.

Briefing media persons about the company's future plans, Arjun Kumar Jagatramka, vice chairman and managing director, Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd, said that the total power generation capacity of the proposed plants at Bhachau and Dharwad would be of 30 mw and the investment for each plant would be around Rs 50-55 crore. The power plants are expected to be commissioned within 24 months.

"Once both these plants are operational, the company will set up another plant at Khambhalia in Jamnagar district within six months time," he added. These are the waste heat power plants based on coke batteries.

Talking about the company's other plans, Jagatramka said that apart from the power plants Gujarat NRE Coke was also in the process of enhancing coke production from 1 million tonne to 1.3 million tonne by 2009 with an investment of $14 million. The coking coal production would also be increased to 1.5 metric tonne per annum. It is also in the process of doubling coke-making capacity at Dharwad.
