Land acquisition: States should go by R&R Act

The Union government wants the Relief & Rehablition Bill of 2007 to become a law by the end of this year, according to Ashwani Kumar, Union minister of state for industry. He said states, which have got approval for petrochemicals & petroleum investment regions (PCPIRs), should acquire land in line with the R&R Act. Kumar said of the five states which will have one PCPIR each on 250sq km, West Bengal is the only one yet to acquire land. Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat have already acquired land. He was speaking at the 79th AGM of ICC. The industry ministry has proposed to set up manufacturing investment regions across the county in line of the PCPIRs.
