The Jamshedpur income tax commissariat has opened a help centre for more than 2,000 partnership firms who will have to file their income tax returns electronically for the first time by October 31. According to Jamshedpur commissioner of income tax K Sarkar, the I-T department will run the centre till the last date of filing of returns this year i.e. October 31. National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) too has appointed nine facilitators within the jurisdiction of the commissariat to assist assessees in this regard against a fee. While there are around 400 companies under the commissariat, the number of partnership firms and other entities who will require to file tax returns electronically for the first time this year is estimated at around 2000. So, from Monday, the commissariat has appointed a three-man team headed by an income tax officer at its help centre.
