India shares open up 0.85 percent

BANGALORE (Reuters) - Indian shares started up 0.85 percent on Thursday, bolstered by strong Asian markets, with index heavyweights Reliance Industries Ltd and ICICI Bank Ltd leading the gains.

At 9:57 a.m., the 30-share BSE index was up 0.46 percent, or 75.77 points, at 16,601.14, with 25 of its components rising.

The broader 50-issue NSE index had risen 0.52 percent to 4,943.95.
