Castrol Announces the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards |

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, June 05, 2008 -- (Business Wire India) -- Castrol today announced the launch of the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards which will be held in Karachi, Pakistan, on 27 June 2008, during the forthcoming Asia Cup. Mr. Naveen Kshatriya, Chief Executive, BP Lubricants - Africa, Middle East, Turkey and South Asia, made this announcement in the presence of Asian cricketing legends – Rahul Dravid, Sanath Jayasuriya and Wasim Akram. The life-size replica of the glittering trophy of the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards was also unveiled amidst much fanfare.
Eleven years after instituting the very first and most respected ‘Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence’ for Indian cricketers,Castrol has taken another momentous step with the institution of the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards. The Castrol Asian Cricket Awards will honor and felicitate Asia's best cricketers on a biennial basis across the three major formats – Test cricket, One Dayers and T20 Internationals.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the Awards at a press conference in Mumbai, Mr. Naveen Kshatriya said, “The creation of the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards is entirely in keeping with South Asia’s status as cricket's hub and heart, in terms of commerce, and more importantly, talent, popularity and passion. With Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, South Asia is today the home of leading cricketing nations in the world.”
Sanath Jayasuriya, Wasim Akram and Rahul Dravid will be the ambassadors for the Castrol Asian Cricket Awards. Besides unveiling the glittering trophy, the three cricketers were involved in an interesting discussion moderated by Harsha Bhogle on the subject “Is there an Asian way of playing cricket?” Harsha Bhogle also shared the details of the judging methodology for the Awards which is based on an objective and simple point system called the Castrol Performance Index (attached). The various categories under which the awards will be given away are as follows:
--Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year (Overall)
--Castrol Asian Batsman of the Year (Overall)
--Castrol Asian Bowler of the Year (Overall)
--Castrol Asian Fielder of the Year (Overall)
--Castrol Asian Test Batsman of the Year
--Castrol Asian Test Bowler of the Year
--Castrol Asian ODI Batsman of the Year
--Castrol Asian ODI Bowler of the Year
--Castrol Asian Twenty20 Batsman of the Year
--Castrol Asian Twenty20 Bowler of the Year
About Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence (India)
The Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence were instituted by Castrol in 1997 to recognize and honor the present, past and future of Indian Cricket. The main awards include the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year, the Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year and the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award. The Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year Award is a democratic award based on the performances of Indian cricketers in International cricket. The Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year Award recognizes and highlights the performances of budding cricketers who are exceptionally talented and who have performed consistently in the domestic season under review. The Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes and rewards outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.
