Leading NRI, Kartar Lalvani, has won the Master Entrepreneur Award 2008 at a gala ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in London. According to the citation given on Thursday, Kartar Lalvani, President of Vitabiotics, was chosen for the coveted award instituted by Ernst and Young for exhibiting strong personal values, respect and integrity in relationships with staff, clients suppliers and colleagues, inspiring others as a role model, mentor or advisor and having personal involvement in the wider community. He founded Vitabiotics after personal research into a mouth ulcer remedy and discovered that there was a gap in the market for alternative, natural therapies. Lalvani, a noted philanthropist, has a degree in pharmacy and a doctorate in medicinal chemistry, and has built his business on scientific innovation. The company now sells its products in over 70 countries. In the UK, 50 million pounds worth of products are sold through retail chains, supermarkets and pharmaceutical outlets nationwide, making it a major competitor in the vitamins, minerals and supplements market. The company won a Queen's Award for Excellence in International Trade in 2003 and again in 2008.
