The plant, SAIL's largest and most profitable unit, said the first quarter's performance was a continuation of its record show in 2007-08.

SAIL is due to announce its financial results for the quarter to June 30, 2008, on Monday.

According to a statement, the cumulative production of high tensile plates for home sales, total high tensile plates, electrode quality wire rods, TMT wire rods, TMT bars and total TMT bars & rods in during the quarter ended June 30, 2008, have surpassed all previous records.

In 2008-09, not only has it sustained higher levels of production, the Fe 500 grade of TMT bars are now being made available to the customer with earthquake-resistant (EQR) properties.

The merchant mill produced 1.47 lakh tonne, against its Q1 annual business plan target of 1.24 lakh tonne, to meet the increased orders for its TMT-HCR (high corrosion-resistant grade) and TMT-EQR in Fe 500 grade.
