NRI businessman killed in UK road mishap

A prominent Indian-origin businessman, who set up a series of shops in Lancaster in north England after his arrival in the 1950s, has died in a road accident.

Amritsar-born Sadhu Singh (75) owned a fashion stall in the Lancaster market for more than 30 years and also ran family shops in Morecambe and Barrow.

Floral tributes adorn the lamp-posts close to the spot, where he died yesterday, including a touching message from his widow reading, "How can I carry on now that you have left me?"

He leaves behind five sons, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In a statement, his family said, "Dad was an amazingly hard worker who did everything he could to help his family. He was a very popular man who loved to keep busy.

"Everyone who knew him called him Mr Singh. Despite being in his 70s he never slowed down and his death has been a surprise for us all. He will be sadly missed."
