By Banking Bureau
Country s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBIN.NS : 2242.9 -11.75), is all set to launch its mobile banking in January. As a pilot we have already started mobile banking for small payments and other services and I expect it to be launched officially by January end, said RP Sinha while launching internet banking kiosk at the bank s ATM centre in Mumbai on Saturday. SBI has selected 383 stations in the country for installation of ATM kiosks out of 700 ATMs, located in various railway stations. Apart from reservation of railway tickets, these kiosks would provide online banking services such as fund transfer, transaction/balance enquiry, payment of utility bills, inter-banking fund transfer through RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) and NEFT (National Electronics Funds Transfer System) and others. Right now the bank was having a total of 11,110 ATMs in the country which was likely to go up to 15,000 by the fiscal-end. Further, the number of bank s ATMs was likely to go up to 25,000 by March, 2010, said Sinha. Currently the bank was having 11,000 branches on its own and also make use of other 5,000 branches owned by its six associates. Also, the bank is having 30 lakh customers using internet facilities.said Sinha. Asked to comment on the non functioning of the bank s site for last few days, Sinha said part of the banks site was under technical maintenance. Sinha hoped that the entire site will resume its services for customers by Saturday night.
