Gujarat shifts industry policy focus

The Gujarat government on Monday announced a paradigm shift in its industrial policy with more emphasis on holistic socio-economic development of the state rather than just industrial growth.

Coming as it did just a week before the two-day 'Vibrant Gujarat' global investors' summit, the new industrial policy is likely serve as the blueprint for future investments into the state.

The thrust of the new industrial policy would be attracting quality investments to meet the socio-economic goals of the state.Industries Minister Saurabh Patel said that the new focus would be total economic development of the state.
The industrial policy would also strive to make 'made in Gujarat' a respected global brand.

Replying to a question whether the inscription 'made in Gujarat' would be made mandatory for products manufactured in the state, the minister said that there would be no such legal obligation but it would guarantee a 'zero defect' item.
The new industrial policy is based on three objectives like investments, employment and employability and quality, the document said.
