Aurobindo gets Canada's nod for epilepsy drug

Drug maker Aurobindo Pharma (AUROPHARM.NS : 818.4 +11.9) on Tuesday said that it has received regulatory approval from Canada for a drug used in epilepsy.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (^BSESN : 16158.28 +94.38), Aurobindo Pharma informed that its has received approval from federal department Health Canada for Gabapentin capsules.

The drug is in the strengths of 100mg, 300mg and 400 mg, the filing added.

Gabapentin capsules is the generic equivalent of Pfizer Canada Inc's Neurotinl capsules of same strength, falls under the central nervous system segment and is indicated for treatment of seizures in patients diagnosed with epilepsy, it added.

Further, this is company's sixth product approval from Health Canada.

Health Canada is the federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health.
