Bharti doubling retail footprint

The Sunil and Rajan Mittal-led Bharti Retail, a subsidiary of group flagship Bharti Enterprises, plans to double its retail footprint from 1.65 lakh square feet to 3.3 lakh sq feet by the end of the current fiscal year.

Bharti Retail Pvt Ltd, which has a supermarket and a 'compact' hypermarket format, is studying the prospect of entering full-fledged hypermarkets, its president and chief operating officer Vinod Sawhny told Hindustan Times.

A hypermarket offers under one roof everything from groceries to general merchandise. Bharti's 'Easyday' supermarket stores are of the average size of 2,500 to 3,000 sq feet while 'Easyday Market' stores are larger in size with an area of 30,000 to 45,000 square feet.
