SC for Karna CM in infra corridor panel

By fe Bureaus
The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Karnataka government to organise a high-level committee headed by chief minister BS Yedduyurappa for expediting the implementation of the delayed multi-crore Bangalore-Mysore infrastructure corridor project (BMICP). The Court also directed the state government to file a status report by November 22. A three-judge bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee, R M Lodha and Deepak Verma gave these directions while hearing a petition by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which has sought contempt of court proceedings against the Karnataka chief secretary and six other officials for allegedly derailing the project and delaying its implementation despite an April 2006 order of the apex court. Karnataka advocate general Ashok Haranhally had told the bench that the state has already alloted 7,000 acre to the promoter NICE and assured the state would not come in the way of the project s smooth execution. He urged the court to give a direction to NICE to stick to the alignment of the route as per the originally approved plan.
