NY gold up, other metals off, U.S. jobs data weakens
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The following are New York
midsession prices and market updates for precious metals and
copper:
GOLD
* December gold added $6.10 to $1,095.40 an ounce at 12:29 p.m. EST (1729 GMT) on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
* Range spanned $1,086.50 to $1,101.90, a record.
* Gold boosted as investors sought the safety of gold as an asset after the U.S. October employment report came in worse than forecasts- traders.
* A dollar decline against the euro contributed to gold's advance - traders.
* U.S. employers cut 190,000 jobs in October. Unemployment rose to 10.2 percent for the first time since 1983.
* Gold underpinned by expectations of renewed central bank interest after IMF sale of 200 tonnes of gold to India this week.
* COMEX estimated noon volume at a hefty 141,091 lots.
* Spot gold rose to $1,095 an ounce, up from $1,088.95 quoted late in the previous session in New York, but off the $1,100.90 record high hit following U.S. jobs data.
* London's afternoon gold fix was set higher at $1,096.75 an ounce.
SILVER
* December silver slipped 2.5 cents to $17.3850 an ounce, softening with other metals after slack U.S. employment figures.
* Range ran from $17.27 to $17.63.
* COMEX estimated 12 p.m. volume at 33,025 lots.
* Spot silver came to $17.37, lower than $17.47 in the previous late New York session.
* London silver fix was set at $17.5250.
PLATINUM
* January platinum fell $12.90 to $1,350 an ounce.
* Spot platinum lost ground to $1,340.50, down $10 from the late previous session quote in New York.
PALLADIUM
* December palladium eased $3.05 to $328.80 an ounce with most metals after the decline in labor market data.
* Spot palladium slipped to $325, down slightly from the previous close.
COPPER
* December copper edged 0.30 cent lower to $2.9540 per lb on demand worries following a weak U.S. jobs report.
