IT industry to grow by 3% The IT industry is ending its worst year ever, with the worldwide IT spending expected to decline 5.2% in 2009, IT research & advisory firm Gartner said. However, this industry would return to growth in 2010 with a total spending of $3.3 trillion, registering a 3.3% increase from 2009, the report said. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific IT spending, which is expected to grow 5% to reach $515.6 billion in 2010, represents a fast V-shaped recovery for IT spending in the region, Gartner Research global head & senior vice-president Peter Sondergaard said. CII pegs GDP at 7% for 09-10 India Inc on Tuesday projected the country s economic growth in the range of 6-7% for this fiscal, but slackening global demand remains a major concern for the community, industry body CII said. This indicates a strong recovery sentiment for the Indian economy, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said in a survey. Out of 134 respondents participated in the CII Northern Region Business Outlook Survey, more than half said that India s economic growth is likely to be in the range of 6-7% in the current fiscal. 600 m UID nos in 5 yrs: Nilekani About half of the country s total population will get their Unique Identification numbers within the next five and half years, chairman of the project Nandan Nilekani said on Tuesday. The number of the people who would get the numbers would be over 600 million. The authority would begin providing the 16-digit number to the people of Bihar in the next 18 months, he added. Expressing satisfaction over Bihar s progress in the IT field, he said, It is a good sign that the state government is giving due importance to biometric projects. Intel withdraws suit Intel Corporation on Tuesday withdrew its suit before the Delhi High Court against the government, trademark registry and the two small firms which have got registered its trademark till 2017. During the proceedings, counsels appearing for the Intel Corp informed the division bench headed by the Chief Justice AP Shah about their decision to withdraw the suit against the trademark registry. The company requested the court to allow it to contest the grant of trademark of Intel to two small firms-Intel Instrument and Intel Exports-making measuring instruments, at an appropriate court. BSE revamps website The Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday revamped its website making it more investor-friendly, with addition of a wide range of features, including live streaming quotes for Sensex scrips and advanced stock search. The new website presents a wide range of features like live streaming quotes for Sensex companies, advanced stock reach, Sensex view, market galaxy, and members, the BSE said in a statement. The new-look BSE website is part of the ongoing enhancements at the bourse.
