NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's gold imports in December jumped to 32-35 tonnes provisionally from 3 tonnes a year ago, the head of Bombay Bullion Association (BBA) said on Friday.

Gold imports in 2009 was "a little over 200 tonnes" versus 420 tonnes in 2008, Suresh Hundia, president of BBA told Reuters over phone from Mumbai without elaborating.

Gold prices have been on a record-breaking spree in 2009, denting demand significantly in the price-sensitive country.

Hundia said data of the past few months was slated to be revised. BBA is an association of retailers and wholesalers.
